Bad Tach in 2500M

Just picked up my '73 2500M. Wow! What a great car. I'm sorting out a few of the electrical issues with it. The tach is one of them. The needle move only to 1500 rpms, but not any further. Are these cable driven or electrical tachs? What should I check first?
