I shoot upper and lower radiator hoses...you not only get the high temp, but also get a feel for how your cooling system is working.

One thing I learned a long time ago is to never let a radiator shop paint a radiator or fuel tank after cleaning it. Not only do most of them use soft paint, but they do not do good prep work before painting. The less paint on the fins, the better the air flow. Sometimes they ignore my instruction and I end up stripping and repainting it. But I don't leave the shop without either a discount or some other compensation.
 
Yeah, my only compensation was in the form of letting him know of my dissatisfaction :smile:Lesson learned....
 
Guys (and I CAN'T believe nobody else has mentioned) but Radiator paint (from Shops) is an ENTIRE different ball game!!! Want to HELP increase the temp the radiator does NOT give off, paint with reg. aersols!! Day WILL come you seriously REGRET it!!

Paints that shops use IS a very special one that is DESIGNED to disapate HEAT!!

Yeah, they usually use different paint. (And it was mentioned up above.) This guy bombed it with a rattle can. I have to admit that I did too. But it looks fine, considering. I don't run a thermostat and it never got over 130. Granted it was only 50 degrees.
 
Always used Rustolum, but then what do I know.
 
Another good argument for an aluminium radiator...you don't have to paint it!! :thumbsup:
BTW, What type of paint is the "special" stuff? I have always believed it was the COLOR that did the absorbtion/reflection of heat thing (as opposed to chemistry!), with flat black being the most efficient color for heat TRANSFER!
 
Eastwood sells the radiator paint in a rattlecan. It is supposed to be thinner than regular paint I think. It isn't too expensive and it goes on very dull.

Thinner paint is a key! I cannot immagine a heavy build-up of any paint as being good for either heat-dissipation OR air-flow!!

"Dull" (or matte) is also important...as far as heat goes, matte radiates, gloss reflects!!
