bad news

Oh, and you can buy a fin straightener or DIY with a small screwdriver and time. Most radiators have some bent fins anyways. That one is actually not all that bad. Taking it out is what is the PITA. Don't use that stop leak, it will stop up more important things than the radiator leak

Thanks Kim. Yeah, I will taking this rad in to have it fixed. The worst part with taking it out and putting it in is the lower hose!

If you put it in correctly you can get to the lower hose and clamp from the bottom. Just slide under a bit.

Barry - sounds like you really want an aluminum radiator even if this one isn't all that badly damaged.

I just like the looks of them more than anything. I will have this one fixed for now. Lots of driving to be done before I get that fancy!

Took it in last night and he thought that he could fix it for about $45. Should have been able to pick her up tonight. He just called and a recore is in order--$320. :frown:

$500 or so gets you an aluminum job that bolts right in.

Repairing it is what I'd do..if it wasn't bad before, it doesn't need recore! (Hey, I'm a poet...hehehe)

Wow $570? I pretty sure they quoted me $495 about a year ago.

Oh well. On the plus side a re-core will cool better than the old radiator.

It was WC. Nice guy. Might be something to look into in the future. The reason it needs re-cored is because the tubes are so old and brittle, every time he adds heat it starts leaking beside the spot that he is fixing. ?? Does that make sense? Makes sense to me....

I just installed an aluminum rad, have a bugeye rad which was cleaned last winter, and another that is not as nice. I am not living at home presently, so if you have the time, I'll be back in a week or so.

Thanks, but I already gave him the go ahead. I really want to get her back on the road and continue working out the other stuff.

price of copper keeps going up up up - which is why people keep stealing from construction sites etc.

Doesn't a suzuki rad fit also?

Well, here are some pics of the bad motor mount and the toasted fan! I got the new fan yesterday and the new mount today. I will have to say, that the new mount just seems nicer--better quality. However, it looks as if they are cut with the same machine. They both have a weird offset cut to them. The new mounts did not have the thread protectors like the ones from Moss did. The new ones from VB also came in a box marked Beck/Arnley. Have you every heard of these guys Tony? Do Moss and VB both buy mounts from the same place?
