Bad Fuel Pump?

Yup, meetoo. And the added feature that "spares" can be carried in the glovebox, at a price commensurate with two dozen eggs. How can ya top a deal like that?!?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif
 
I do have a Dave Dubois solid state conversion in my '67 BGT but I carry a spare points fuel pump in that car. The rest of the cars don't need a spare because the points pumps typically give warning if they are going to give you trouble.
 
After paying two tow bills for customers cars that I installed 'solid state' SU pumps I went back to point types. In fairness this was in the late eighties or early nineties. Now all five of my MGB's and two S-Types are back to original. The E-Type fuel pump is motor driven and probably will not respond to a whack with a screwdriver handle should it fail.

Steve - You would be better served to use the pump with points in it on the car and carry the pump that I converted to solid state as a spare. If that pump with points sits in your car without being used for a long period of time, it is not going to run for you when you need it due to the points filming over, where as the solid state pump will start right up for you regardless of how long it sits unused.
