Bad Coolant Hoses

My upper radiator hose sprung 2 leaks and they're not even 2 years old. When I got the set of hoses from TRF I thought the upper one felt a little soft in places and after cutting this one in half you can see the different thicknesses (3/32" at the thinnest and 7/32" at the thickest) The other pictures show how the underside of this hose has deteriorated and split.

It seems like anything that we buy that is made of rubber these days is just junk. My rear hand brake dust covers, lower wishbone seals, and balljoint covers are falling apart, and the car has never left the garage. Yes they are 2 1/2 years old but come on. I don't even want to mention the windshield seal cracking. Even if you get free replacement what a pain to replace. I forgot to mention the fanbelt that fell apart in three years. This is a sore subject for me, but I know I should be greatfull that we can even get these parts. Pretrip inspections is almost a must with these cars.

Bob I forgot to mention that I did get 4000 miles out of my last hose set. No leaks but they were so soft I did not trust them.

Time for Braided Stainless steel Bobby?

Bob:
Like everyone else I've noticed that the quality of the British car parts have been getting worst. Now, whenever I have a problem with a part, whatever the problem is, I let the company know about it. Regardless of whether they replace it or not; they won't take any action to correct the problem if they are not aware there is a problem with it.

...then a trip to NAPA to see if they still list 'em.

:iagree: NAPA always seems to carry quality replacement parts and Bob don't you have a pal who owns a NAPA store ?

He had the nerve to sell his two stores and actually retire! :cryin: But I'll drop him a line to see if he can give me some part numbers.

Don, if those numbers are not available, it just might be time for some bling in CT....

I replaced the top radiator hose on my TR7 as a precaution because it was getting old. The new one blew out after about a year. I put the old one back on and it is holding up just fine. I was suspicious of the newer one from the get go. It just didn't seem to be as substantial and didn't have the reinforcing material. It seems the people that sold it to me would know what they were buying/selling and would hold to some standard.
