after replacing the head gasket, the car had trouble restarting. I noticed the coil was very hot and since I put a pertronix electric distributer in I figured i'd put in a high performance coil... so far so good. timing correct, oil pressure good... still hard to restart... compression test shows #1 155lbs #2 145lbs #3 75lbs # 4 85lbs...i think at this point I need to pull the motor out and start from scratch and rebuilt it...I would greatly appreciate ANY input from you guys... thanks

Oh, and make sure the high performance coil isn't going to fry the Pertronix - you might want to double check the resistance.

Up to you, of course. But pretty much everything having to do with compression can be serviced with the engine in the car (except maybe the camshaft). Kind of messy to replace the liners, but I have done it more than once. And chances are that it will get you back on the road quicker.

Did you check the valves while the head was off?

Does the compression on 3 & 4 come way up with a couple squirts of oil down the plug hole?

thanx for all the info. I'll pull the head on monday, check the valves and go from there. i'll be back on tuesday with a report ... again THANK YOU!

pulled the head yesterday and had to the head shop by 7pm...intake valves in cyl. 3 and 4 leaked pretty bad.i'll have it back in and running saturday afternoon.with fingers tightly crossed.(going to check the cylinders just to make sure rings are ok.)thanx for all the info guys!
