The other night, I was curious about the size difference between the MGB and the Spridget, so I did a Google search for "MG Midget versus MGB" and came across this "advice" page. The thread is now closed, so we can't add our two cents worth.

It starts out okay, but then...My god. You'd think that LBCs were totally incapable of making it around the block, and if they did, an SUV would run you over and kill you.

It just goes to show you, an LBC is not for everyone, but if you understand what you're getting into, they are no worse than any other vintage automobile...and a lot better in a lot of ways. The best advice I was given about an LBC is "Listen to what the car is telling you, and then give it what it needs". Even though I'm still a relative novice to the LBC world, that advice has already saved me several times.

Wow.

How on earth did I ever survive decades with MGB's and Lotus Elans as daily drivers?!? I must be the luckiest guy on the planet!

As for the Alfas, three GTV's and currently a '79 Spider. The Spider got a transplant in 2000: Had a 1750 engine from a prior GT we rebuilt and inserted, the thing has been a totally reliable car for over a decade now. Nothing that wouldn't be considered a wear item on ANY vehicle has been a problem. I won't dispute the rust issue, though. PA road salt took several great cars away from me.

I think many of the "comments" and "advice" sections on the internet are populated by 14 year old trolls who know everything and nothing. For good (and sensible) advice on British cars, this is the place! :joyous:

The timeframe many of them seem to be remembering is the 70s when they were just another old car and we were poor students who could only afford patched together repairs. And, its easy to forget that 40 or more years ago all cars required more regular maintenance and had shorter lived components than today. Like any old car you cannot measure it by the expectations of buying new today.

I guess I'm one of those lucky ones also. My first LBC was bought in 1965. It was a '62 TR4. I've had numerous LBCs since than, and most of them were daily drivers. Funny thing, I was never stranded by the roadside while driving one. I can't say that about some other cars I've owned.

They're all idiots. They get "best answer" voting by their buds.
I remember when yahoo changed their abuse reporting...go to ARIN, find the link, report it, and it comes back telling you you must do this, that, and the other thing. Went to their help forum, some idiot answered some hogwash thing...got "best answer", which wasn't even close, and once the "best answer" in marked, thread closed.
The dumbing down of the internet at it's finest.

I was fairly o.k till I got to, "VW's aren't daily drivers".....

That is by far the dumbest automotive comment of all time.

"VW's aren't daily drivers".. ??? I drove a super bug for 6 years and I never had a bit of trouble with it. It always started, winter or summer and never let me down. I can't say that for most of the other hundred or so cars I've had in the past 60 years! Just sayin. PJ

I drove my old 1500 Spitfire for 5 years as a daily driver. The only problem I ever had was when the electronic ignition burnt up, replaced the dizzy with a mechanical one and never had another problem. Other than getting wet anytime I drove in the rain.

exactly!

That's very true! Your not allowed to lie on the internet. -------- I heard that on the internet! :encouragement: PJ
