The Charles W. Morgan, the USA's oldest seaworthy commercial vessel, is heading back to sea.

This great old 19th century whaling ship has been undergoing major repairs for the last five or six years. Much of the framing came from oak trees damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2009. The Morgan's first sailing from Connecticut's Mystic Seaport in 70 years occurs this weekend.

And despite needing major repairs myself, I'm happy to say I'm still vertical! By the way, if you want an eye opener, read about about life for 19th century sailors.

When I was at Sub School in Groton, we'd drive up to Mystic often.
That ship was beached in a gravel bed (1970), we were told it would never float again.
Good to see someone with a tad more vision prevailed.

I've been onboard that ship. It was many years ago, and it was far from finished. I think it's time for a trip to Mystic.

You're always welcome in Connecticut!

She's afloat!

I love old ships and it's great to see this one put back to sea after such a long rest! It's now where it belongs, in the water, not on land. Thanks for posting the video! :encouragement: PJ

Funny but we were discussing Mystic at my daughter's house last night.

We'll be in Thompson for the first, joint VSCCA / VRG vintage race at the newly re-opened ~Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park~ on June 27-29.

Linda and I might take an extra day or two and stop by at Mystic (the issue may be whether we can leave the race car at the track for a couple of days......I don't exactly want to drag it around Mystic).
