Who's taking their kids back to college besides me? I am off to James Madison University today. It will be over 100 degrees today. The Subaru Outback is packed to the gills including the car top carrier. Desination: Sorority House full of college girls. Mom will be crying on the way home. Tuition, room, and board are paid (that hurt). Life is good!

One of my sons left for Millikin University in Decatur, IL on Thursday...moving into an apartment with three other guys..he's starting his Junior year...biology major with sights on Physical Therapy/Sports medicine.

The other son began his third year of college on Monday...he's currently attending Parkland College in Champaign, IL. After dropping a Criminal Justice program, he's now in Agricultural Finance...farm management and investments. He lives at home.

WHEW! Glad that's behind me.

I have three nieces that are starting this semester...one at my school. And my younger daughter is taking some classes but she and her husband are paying for those.

And *I'm* going back too.
At this rate I feel like I'll never *stop* going back: This is my 36th year of teaching.

My freshman engineering classes are full which is excellent as far as I am concerned.
Looking forward to working with AutoCad '08 and the new MasterCam software. We are scheduled to get two new CNC machines this year (after years of begging and cajoling on my part).
Anyone want my old 10,000 lb Pratt NC mill? You move it...you can have it. I'm not kidding.

For '07 and '08 I am also in charge of a 10 year accreditation project for our school. This is a huge deal that means a lot to our school in terms of funding and support. Obviously, tons of work for me: roughly 1000 pages of text so far. But one of my best friends at work is co-chairing with me, so that helps.

It's weird, but even after all these years, the first day of classes makes me feel like a kid again.

Granddaughter just started second year of college, it never ends beleive me.

I'm taking a couple of classes toward a Master's in IT and Systems this semester; mainly just to ease myself into it since I've been out of school since '05.

I'm not taking any kids to college, but we've got approximately 22,000 of them moving in to Charlottesville this weekend. C'ville population without students is about 40,000. Add the students = chaos!

Seasoned C'ville residents get their supplies, groceries, wine, etc., before this weekend comes. Then, you sequester yourself in your house and don't venture out all weekend! At night, it's drunk drivers, daytime, lost parents and vans lumbering everywhere.

Our quiet summer is gone, gone, gone!

Oh well, at least the football team is supposed to be better this year! Good soccer and tennis team, too!!!

aeronga, your the kind of person that we should all admire our teachers, the kids should be less interested in persons such as "paris hilton" "big daddy big-small" whatever their names are and get a grip on reality, be productive and contribute, but i can tell you i didnt need to go to no stinkin college to know that i wouldnt ever get involved in moving something that weighs 10,000 pounds. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif thanks for the offer. did you try and donate the machine to any tech. type schools? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

Just got home. Had to go by Charlottesville on the way vagt6. First thing I saw in the sorority house was a pretty young tanned girl wearing nothing but a small bath towel and a smile. In any event, got everything unloaded and put together, had lunch in the main dining hall (great food at JMU), picked up text books in the bookstore, got the computer working, and headed for home. Long, hot day.

We dropped our daughter off last weekend at University of South Florida. Located in Tampa of all places.

This week, my younger daughter started back to HS, so I have a nice quiet house all to myself again. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

My son surprised me and left at 8:00 A.M. this morning and moved himself in. Sweet!

We showed up after the wife got off work by 2:30 only to find out he was all moved in. It was a brisk 97 degrees with what seemed like Florida humidity.

What ever you can think of to pack in a 12' by 12' room with two beds, two desks, two dressers, and a stand-up closet already in it, they will bring it! I saw a full sized projection TV being hoisted up the stairs by four guys because they couldn't fit it on the elevator.

Watch it, Ron. Tampa is five minutes away from me. USF about ten. USF has seen a couple generations of my family so far. First Niece graduated last year. Strangely they all live down Miami way, OF ALL PLACES! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I think what I said came out wrong. When she was first accepted to USF, I was asking where it is, and when I found out it was in Tampa, I was kind of confused since Tampa is kind of mid or North Florida.

Hopefully that came out right /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

My youngest moved in a week ago, all the way across town. Anything we forgot she can come home and get. She still brings her mother her laundry. So much for independence. My eldest starts her new teaching job tommorrow, and I'm really proud of her. All AP and honors physics classes

A 'gurl' with a degree in physics?!?!

Chuck, you done GOOD!!! THAT'S what women's rights is all about in MY book. HOORAY for the kid!! And for "long-view" parents, apparently. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

And, I can't tell you how many rear end collisions are caused on and near the UVA grounds by men rubber-necking at the lovely college girls sunbathing this time of year!

Of course, I'd NEVER do anything like that! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/angel.gif I don't even notice them. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
