back plate paper gasket

Who carries the paper gasket that goes between the engine block and the back plate? Is any sealer used on it? Man, I'm getting hung up on the small stuff.
 
HI TH, Nope no sealer is used but I think you will be required to purchase a set of gaskets that include that one. I do not recall it being Available Separately. Some adhesive could be used to hold it in place during assembly if required.- Fwiw---Keoke
 
Nope TH, No "Form Ah Gasket stuff". The gasket set you will need is the "Conversion Set". To hold the gasket in place during assembly just use some Trim adhesive.-Fwiw--Keoke

What's wrong with the traditional smear of grease to hold it in place!

Not Healey related but I was chuffed to bits making some gaskets for an obscure pneumatic valve that controls the tilting of my induction furnace. No spares anywhere and a very fiddly shape, so I cleaned up the tatty old gaskets, scanned them to bitmaps, added the missing bits on the screen, exported it to my pcb software and generated code for my CNC mill to cut me some replacements and a spare set while I was at it. A niffty way when desperate !

You know that if I get the conversion set (at $45.00 for a 10 cent gasket)I'll end up replacing everything the with new stuff. I WOULD like to drive it sometime.

Well TH!, Then you better hurry up!. Oh! order a Spigot bush too while you are at it. Soon as it comes put it in a small container filled with motor oil and when the Tranny gets back the bush will be ready to go in the center of the crankshaft.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
 
Is that the brass bushing? If so I've got the new one cause the old one had a busted edge. Soak it in oil? There is also a pilot bushing I'm re-using, should it also be soaked?
 
Yep TH, all the brass bushings need to be soaked good in oil. So!, since you have the bushes then you better get a new set of fly wheel bolts to keep em company.---Keoke

Keoke, If you can (or would dare try) tap out a gasket of 1.3mm hard fibre on a soft aluminium machined casting then you are a braver man than I Gungadin ! Keep the ball peen hammer for paper gaskets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

It was wonderful to meet with you and your wife at Autumn Classics, San Juan Baustista. As promised I checked my supply of available engine gaskets but, unfortunately, could not find one for the back plate. Sorry, if I had an extra one it would be yours. You’ll have good success with your choice of trans rebuilder. Keep us posted on the install. GONZO
 
Thanks for looking. I guess getting the full conversion kit will eventually come in handy. Not like they spoil.
By the way, Gonzo, I picked up the chrome today and it is beautiful and perfect. He had it in less than a week. I thought the price was very cheap. Interesting guy in his high seventies. Runs the shop by himself. Great sense of humor. Parting words were, "If your happy tell your friends and if your aren't tell me." Its nice doing business with nice people. He just restored a 70 Corvette he bought for a dollar. Everything in the engine bay was chromed! The car was show material.
