B wire rims - sort of

Had an email from a friend today. He was cleaning his basement and offered me a set of wire wheels. Got there only to find they were MGB rims and not Midget. So, they are available free to a good home.

Here's what you need to know.

1. These are not true wire wheels - they are bolt on. That is to say that the spline bolts on the existing hub but there is a spinner to hold on the wheel.

2. They are in good shape and painted - not chrome.

3. Two have hubs, two do not.

4. All have the spinners - and they seem in good shape.

5. In terms of the "good home" My friend is not interested in someone who will take them and resell them but, someone who can actually use them.

6. They are near Guelph Ontario

PM me if interested

Have you got photos of that conversion?

I don't have pics but could get them, but, basically as Steve has shown

Thanks for the photo, Steve....I was thinking that was what they were......those are an easy way to convert any MGB to wires......& they're worth money....somebody on this place needs them!

I thought about converting the '63 to wires so I sent him a PM.

Tony/Steve, do you have to change the rear because of the width?

Depends on the wheels and tires. In general it's best to change the rear axle because the housing is about 2" wider for discs, and the wire wheels will rub unless you run narrow tires and/or use wheels with a corrected offset.

I would always change the reasr end for a wire rear....but, with this conversion, you can get away not doing so.

That's good cause I don't have a spare WW banjo rear.

This car has the same conversion Steve found on ebay:
