B transmission fluid chcking

I just purchased a 1974 MGB (project car) and according to the manual to check the transmission fluid level there should be a dip stick behind the radio in the tunnel.
(I have a Healey so I know what they are trying to tell me)
However I can find a hole in the tunnel itself but not evidence of a dip stick in the transmission. There is no hole where it should go as far as I can tell. There is however a bolt on the side of the transmission similar to a lot of older US vehicles where it looks like I can check the level at this point. Does this make sense ??

There *should* be a rubber plug behind the radio console on top of the transmission hump. The dipstick is REALLY small...but it almost sounds as though a previous owner has replaced the transmission with a later model (as you suspect and hint in your post). The plug would be on the passenger (right) side of the transmission.

If that is the case, you can remove that plug (while the car is level of course) and feel (or perhaps see) the oil level (it may slightly drain out of the hole upon removal of the plug.)

This is also where you would add new fluid....get some tubing and a funnel...really the only way to add.

Hope that helps.
