B independent rear suspension

Hello

Does anyone have any experience or know of someone who has put an independent rear suspension on a B? Do you think a Miata rear end would work? Any thoughts?

My 71 B roadster project is progressing nicely. To date I've stripped the body to bare metal, had some bad dented fenders fixed and had the car primered in readiness for paint.

I'm thinking of changing the front end to coil overs, and I was wondering if an independent rear would be worth the effort. I have plans to rebuild and pump up the engine with new pistons and cam along with maybe a webber. And I purchased an overdrive tranny from a fellow forumer.

I'll post some pictures of the progress soon. In the mean time let me have your thoughts on the suspension.

Can't comment personally on the IRS, but do a google search. There are several folks in the UK that have done it. Frontline/Costello (yes, THAT costello) sell a 5-link rear kit.

Regarding the front-end, I have a Koni adjustable tube shock front end on my B (not coil-overs). It works great and was about a third of the price of a coilover setup.

Hawk, Hoyle and Bill Guzman come to mind. They all offer kits. Some people have installed Jag IRS but it's a lot of work.

I thought those kits looked a LOT a like. A really nifty kit.
