MGB B engine sputters,stalls and restart in seconds

Hello, My 70 BGT has developed a strange problem. While driving, it will start to spuutter, stall and restart itself, within 3 or so seconds. It runs great before and after. All this happens while still in gear, it is so sudden. Has occured 3 times this year. Fresh Curto carbs and Advanced dizzy rebuild. Don't want to start the replace this, try that scenario; any thoughts???????
 
I would check fuel supply - either floats or crud in the pipe - do you have a fuel filter? and when was the tank last cleaned?

My first guess though would be floats based on the fresh carbs.
 
Hi, yes have filter before pump and one before the carbs. Tank is 12 years old, never thoght to clean it. Will check bowls for crud fron tanh. easy place to start. thanls....
 
Our 72 B did that, would run for a bit then shut down, would restart in a short time. Found out it was the flex line between the tank and pump had a fine crack in it allowing air to enter. Setting still, the pump would fill the carb bowls, but would not supply enough fuel to keep it running at speed, replaced line, never had a problem again. PJ
 
Agree on a fuel issue. If it was ignition then it would probably have a loud backfire thru the exhaust when it came back to life. Good luck with the repair!
 
I can tell you that when the SU fuel pumps fail , they often give signals like this when is sunny out , so that you can have a new pump on order for when it quits while its raining out. But it could be other things.
 
My Bugeye would act like that sometimes, until I figured out I was hitting the key while shifting and accidentaly turning off the engine. no more incidents like that
 
I've been having the same issue with my 70GT. i was putting in a new fuel pump (throwing money at the problem) i broke the pipe to the tank and at its high point it had a hole, but I still get spluttering over 30000 rpm, so i can get home from a test drive but i can't give it some Welly.

new tank and fuel pump, dissy, coil, wires, plugs, carb rebuild. and compression tested 3 times.
