axle leak at right rear..again

Mike
It should only seat in the sense that this makes sure the seal is square / perpendicular to the shaft, the lips do the sealing. Dont force it. It should then be lower than the bottom of the recess for the bearing.

cheers Andy

Thanks Andy - know it's about 8:30 over in the UK ? and really glad you were
still looking at the website. Any thoughts about the rubber O ring ? Guess
it just kind of sits there ?
Thanks again,
Mike

Mike see previous post on first page, i am positive you place the o ring round the spacer, hopefully keoke will be around soon,(my notebook with my sketches of how things went together is at home with the answer!) just started working a 12 hour night shift

Hey Andy,
Just figured out where the O ring goes - there's a groove in the hub that
it fits in perfectly. Could be why I had the problem, didn't have one. Afraid
to check other side now ! Will put the gasket gunk and paper gasket onto
the hub and see how it works tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Mike

Forgive me if someone else has already suggested this but it sounds like you need to put a speedi-sleeve on the zxle stub. After pulling the hub examine the surface of the stuf carefully. If it is pitted or scratched oil will continue to leak into the hub and so onto the rear of your brakes and tires.

Installing a new sleeve is not too difficult, though I destroyed one in the process of learning to do it the first time. Just follow the instructions that come with the kit making sure you get the right size sleeve which you can cross with the bearing number at any auto store.

Success - everything back together and just got back from a 30 minute test
run and no leaks - at least thus far ! Going out a but later today for a
longer drive and see if that makes any difference. BTW, put on my Texas
Cooler fan and that has definitely made a difference. Once up to my
normal operating temp of 190, stayed there and didn't climb when I had to
slow down, stop, etc. Seems like it has made about a 10+ degree difference.
Regards,
Mike
