Auxiliary Oil Feed to Rockershaft on 1500 engine

Quoted from https://www.xs4all.nl/~msaul/ (aka Blueboy, my Spitfire Adventures) ...interesting Netherlands fella.

"<span style="font-style: italic">This month I also removed the external oil supply to the rocker shaft. Most of the comments with regards to this particular accessory are not very positive, the opinions generally stating that it does in fact detract from the reliability and longevity of the engine by reducing the supply of oil to the crankshaft.</span>"

Is this true? I was just about to order one of these oil tubes for my spit for when I get home from this deployment next month.

I'm not sure that "reducing the supply of oil to the crankshaft" is the major issue. The real problem, as many folks have observed, is that this external feed either "fixes a problem that doesn't exist" or is, at best, a "band-aid" solution.

1. The valve train doesn't really need all that much oil. 2. If there is a true lack of oil, the cause of same needs to be found. Often it's a blocked passage or the like. 3. Why add yet another potential leak source?

Wasn't a 1500, but here's what convinced me that the external oil feed wasn't such a good idea.

HOLY ****! Thanks guys! Striking this one off my 'throw money at' list!

Thanks for asking that question, I had on on my parts order list which I am about ready to call in.
