Automotive trivia quiz

Great quiz - thanks for creating it. I got 14 but missed freebie question 10. One could be a bit of a pest and argue that the answer to Triumph TR8. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Hmmm. 71%, but I do wonder about Earle McPherson. He was born in England, and though he did work for Chevrolet, I think he was employed by Ford of Europe when he developed the strut.
It is pretty certain that it first appeared on Ford of Europe cars.

I got that one wrong, too. I thought that the Vauxhall was the first, but that wasn't one of the choices!

You're right about the first use. One of the reasons he left Chevy was that GM wouldn't consider using his idea. He then went to Ford in England and they used it. The question, however, refers to the invention, not the first application. I think both you guys should get extra points, and we'll double the prize money. [I'll have to admit that I wasn't there, but the sources I checked all agreed that he was at Chevy when he invented it.]

Re 78Z's TR-8 comment: You're right. I forgot all about the TR-8.

I think this is an aircooled Shev-er-lay.

While I own a TR8, I understood the question to include the TR8 with the TR7 in that question. Not only because the two share so many parts but also because the V8 was part of the original design process and was originally intended to be one of three different TR7 models. The TR8 was named so in order to distance it from the negative image that the TR7 acquired. The three seperate TR7 models were to be the TR7 (2.0-8 Valve), TR7 Sprint (2.0-16 valve) and TR7V8 (3.5l Rover V8).

Oh yes I realize it was a bit of a nitpick but technically TR8 was a seperate model. Now that coldplugs mentions the Chevy strut story I seem to remember hearing that as well (I didn't remember it when taking the quiz though).

Yes, in the end it was a separate model, but it can be argued that it was only a 'separate model' for marketing purposes. It seems that the for a while TR7V8 and TR8 were used interchangibly by the factory.

The reason I 'assumed' the question included TR8's with the TR7's was because in most 'Wedge' circles the cars are considered the same other than the engine, and of course the VIN's. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
