Automotive trivia quiz

For a while I ran some automotive history trivia quizzes on my website but stopped when too many rice rocket owners began sending me hate mail - typical content was "this is rely stupid kus i never even herd of half theez cars". Sigh....

The info is just stuff I thought interesting. Nothing came from other trivia sites, but from books, magazines, or wherever. I verified all of it with reasonable care. The scoring was purely arbitrary and meaningless.

I'm cleaning the site up and figured I'd collect some of the questions run in the past and throw in some from the queue and post them one last time. The quiz tool I used is crude but free.

Some long-time BCF members will remember some of the questions. Here's a link to it. I'll leave it up for a few days.

hangs my head in shame /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I got a failing grade of 47.6%, but then I've never claimed to be all knowing either...

John,

Great job - many of the answers were
difficult to tell if they were right.
I won't reveal my score - let's just
say that I was embarrassed! Good Job!
Tell the "rice rocket" group to stuff it.

That was fun. I managed 11 out of 21, which means I need to go out to the garage and get some work done! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

I'm new here....my score doesn't count!

I'm dumb and that proves it.

What the hay is a 288 cu inch chevy engine. I thought 265 was first production v8 chevy in 1955??

So did I until a couple of years ago when I was given a Chevy history book that showed a 288 ci OHV V8 as an option in 1917.

There are references to it all over the net - for example try https://www.gmphotostore.com/prodinfo.asp?number=53216861 which is a GM affiliated site that provides prints from their archives.

I remember the introduction (I'm very old) of the 265 and my father drove a 2-door V8 coupe from the dealership for a week or so. I was dumbfounded at the performance even as a kid - this was a Chevy?

To everyone taking this quiz: This is just a way of presenting some trivia in a fun format - please don't take it too seriously.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nopity.gif Okay, so I failed miserably. I still have the ability to drive Agatha and Onslow.

Do I get extra points if I know the relationship between the leather bellows and the SU initials? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Thanks!

ALL of the answers are: OSCA. Except for the two that are "Berkeley". /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The quiz uses Javascript & seems to work ok on Windows w/ IE or FF. I think it's ok on Apples. I don't know about Linux/Xenix/AIX/Unix/PCIX and the rest of the ---X world. You'd know all the answers anyway. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
