Austin Westminster for sale

Thats a new one to me, I had to look that car up. I like it, from the back it looks like a british 53 Ford.

Just one of many British saloon cars sold in Canada but not sold in the United States, I actually know a few American collectors who have purchased British sedans from Canada, a market where they are readily available...

I still remember the A105 Westminster that Dave Lawrence owned in Toronto, I believe I heard that he sold it, I'm out of touch with my Ontario connections now... And there was the A95 Countryman station wagon that was making it's way around Ontario through various owners, hopeful for a restoration... I was hoping to see it but never did...

For those who know Austin the above two cars are quite rare and desireable...

The A105 the high-compression verson of the Westminster

And as I recall the A95 Countryman in question came into New York State when new as a personal car for a dealership owner (thus left-hand-drive)

That is part of the fun of heading north to car shows in Canada. Wife, TR4 and I have attended the ECAIP (English Car Affair in the Park) near Victoria several times also the All British Field Meet at VanDusen Garden in Vancouver. All sorts of Brit Saloon cars, some I have heard of and never seen and some quite honestly were new to me. Always a great time. We are never lonely or bored waiting for the car ferry in either Anacortes or Sidney, lotsa folks to talk to, an old TR always attracts attention.

Reason for edit: can't spell and to let Sherlock know that I will drive the TR to Calgary one of these days.

The Westminster was very popular with police forces around the UK for use as traffic cars. Big, relatively fast with that six-cylinder, and able to carry a lot of equipment, they were in service as traffic cars.

BMC works team used Westminster Estates (maybe the Farina one, can't rememeber exactly) as service barges on rallys, some of them with A-Healey 3000 engines to give them a bit more 'go'.

One story was that the clutch had gone on a 3000 so they pushed it up an Alp with the Westminster and let it roll down the other side to finish 'under its own power'!

I don't believe I've ever seen a Farina Westminster estate. If anyone has a picture, I'd love to! I suspect the (Countryman) estates used were based on the model that sparked this thread. Still highly desirable cars!

There were also a small number of A95 Westminster estates made, I remember reading that somewhere... It wasn't exactly mass-production...

John, thank you so much for that link! What a gorgeous car that home-built estate is. Makes one wonder why BMC didn't bother...
