Austin Sheerline Project

The Austin Sheerline black and silver is newly painted original car. I bought the other Sheerline from New Orleans as a parts car because I needed the chrome strips off of the doors to finish the black and sliver one. The parts car from New Orleans was just a shell with no engine or transmission, no dash or interior and no steering column. All the interior wood was rotted including the door structures, however the sheet metal body parts were in pretty decent condition. I then decided to build this one into more of a street rod, looking close to original but sporting a newer driveline and new dash and interior. I have come quite a ways in mocking up this car. I have loaded independent suspension at all wheel positions along with power abs disc brakes. Engine of choice is a 3.8 liter Ford V6 Supercharged and a 4 speed automatic transmission. Loaded with most all power options, windows, locks, steering, heat, air and power sun roof. Need to mention, also modifying the body by changing from a 4 door to a two door as was never available from the factory. It is to closely resemble the only Austin Sheerline modified to a two door (black and white Austin as found on the internet). Still a lot of work and fabrication to do, but it is truly a labor of love building these old autos.

Hello Chester

A great looking project you have going there, the colour scheme is very nice and looks in keeping with the cars heritage. Do not think I have heard of the Austin Sheerline before. What year is the Sheerline?

David

The Austin Sheerline model was built from 1947 to 1954, offered in the 4 door saloon and a longer wheel base limo version also used on some ambulances. Production numbers for that period estimated at below 8,000. The one I am currently working on is a 1949. The only thing I have not figured out is the headlight configuration. I have not seen another Sheerline with headlights mounted within the front fender, but it all appears to be factory done. Thanks for your nice comments and interest
