Hello,

while on vacation in Orlando just wondered if there might be a club with Austin Healey enthousiasts in or around Sebring as one of these coming days I want to visit the Sebring race track.

:savewave:
You have a ticket???-----Keoke-

Hi Keoke,

When I emailed them before they told me you can come whenever you like the only thing is that there will be no events during this period.

regards

There is a Healey club in Orlando.

The time to come to Sebring is in March for the 12 Hour races. SVRA puts on an "Historic" race for old cars. I have raced my Elva Courier there 2007-2009 (missed this year due to illness) and plan on going back next March. It is a great show with all kinds of outstanding cars, hundreds of thousands of people (most of whom are there to get drunk) and a great assortment of track food. Bring your umbrrella...

I have been today to the Sebring racetrack and have given me a rough idea how it must have been in 1960.

Went to Reeds motel as well as the BMC race team used this hotel for many years as there base. The owners told me that next year they will accommodate a lot of Healey enthousiasts during an event.

The people at Sebring told me they will accommodate December 3-5 the legends of motorsports.

In 1987 I was president of the Tampa Bay Austin-Healey Club and we hosted and organized the first Southeastern Classic, holding it in Sebring. We stayed at the Kenilworth Lodge where, we were told, many of the crews from the annual 12-hour race used to stay back in the day.

We also rented the track for a day as it cost only something like $800 (although at the time it was still splurging, given our budget), and among our registrants was a gentleman named Phil Stiles. He wasn't our "special guest," he was just one of our registrants.

At the time we didn't even realize who he was - except that when I saw that he listed "FIA" among his car club affiliations, I knew that something was up - and when we began to figure out who he was and we noticed that he had not signed up for the awards dinner, I went to his room and invited him to join us and we also asked him to speak. It was quite a nice unexpected highlight of the first of this series of annual meetings that still take place each year. Next year will be the 25th Southeastern Classic!
