Austin Healey 100-6 Sell or Restore?

I have a AH 100-6 that has been sitting for quite some time. I am debating about selling it or restoring it. I inherited it from my father-in-law. It has not run for 20 years. The wheels are frozen and the interior needs complete replacement.

Do you have suggestions for a ballpark restoration cost & time frame and where I could find reputable shops? I am in the Boston area.

Also, any thoughts on mechanisms to sell it?

Most likely it will cost far more to have a shop restore it than the car is worth. It only makes any financial sense if you do the work yourself and enjoy doing it.

A lot depends on the condition of the frame and other metal on the car. Frozen wheels/brakes and a worn interior may not be that difficult to remedy. On the other hand, if the car has serious corrosion issues, that is much more serious. A thorough evaluation by someone that knows what to look for would help you make an informed decision about what to do with the car. Maybe a local person experienced with Healeys could help you with this.

Since you inherited the car, you have nothing into it to start, so a restoration could very well be "worth" it. If you want to keep it and enjoy it, having it restored is a great option. You will have a wonderful car to use and enjoy. If you intend to sell it regardless, this is not necessarily the right car to do a speculative restoration on. I recommend contacting British Restoration Corporation in Philadelphia. They just finished my car and it is stunning. They do fixed price restorations (so you know your exact cost) and they have done hundreds of big Healeys (so they know what they are doing). If you would like, I will be happy to make an introduction for you.

Feel free to reach out to the regional club and get a local expert to drop by and give you his/her opinion on the condition of the car. Additionally, a good source for information on repair/restoration shops.
