Do you remember why that 31 star flag was displayed on deck on that day?
 
I have my slide rule from High School and the bigger one from College. Just got my Dad's that he used in engineering school and his job with the Power Co. Even into the 90s before he retired, he was still using it on the job, did not trust the new fangled stuff. Was amazing how far he could carry the decimals, I stopped after 4 places.
 
Dad had both a K&E and a small compact slip-stick I learned to use sometime around third or fourth grade. As soon as TI came out with their scientific calculators, he got one of those and the world was changed.
 
Still have the one I had in high school at home along with my first TI calculator, $300 then for something that did little more than add, subtract, multiply and divide. But seemed amazing then. And now similar function devices are given away as "thanks for looking" type prizes if you see them at all. And are cheaper to replace than even buy new batteries for...
 
My old eyes now require this one. :glee:

[Actually, that thing was a teaching tool being discarded and I had to have it. Now hanging in my garage.]
 
That's the sole reason I got it.
I used one in my first year or two of university... but then calculators took the world by storm. Don't even know where my original one is (and doubt I have it).
