Auction of The Autoist [Tony's Collection]

Okayokay... You're a good judge of character and ya know I'd trust you with my life (maybe NOT in a fire-fight, but in about any other circumstance, certes. ) so your judgement is good as gold.

It was just lookin' like a Freudian thing.

My bad. I apologise. I understand the weight of the task.
They should be made aware of the typo, tho.
It's spooky.

Fire-fight? I "qualified" a while back....

As for notifying, it's Bring-a-Trailer's issue.

No apology necessary. It seems no one knows how to proof-read any more. Either that, or they just don't care.

On the "suction house" typo and comment, I'm a skeptic too, but even the biggest skeptic would be proven wrong on this one. Fowler Auction has done a terrific job. We're very impressed with their work and dedication. They're earning their fee. Ask me again Friday evening, tonight I'd tell you I'd hire them again in a heartbeat. Dad knew how to drive a hard bargain and, one thing I've realized the last nine months, as we've dealt with countless contractors and vendors while we renovated a condo for Mom and prepared for this auction, he taught me more about negotiating than I realized. Dad was hard core, and the apple didn't fall far from the proverbial tree.

What's the deal with Bring a Trailer, not sure I'm following the concept. Blog, forum? Someone on that site mentioned a Lancia, and again I thought about Dad and his chocolate brown Lancia that he loved.

48 hours, auction is over. Phew. Almost 9 months to the day since the accident. Next on the "to do" list, get the MGB road ready and the TD back in its bubble in its new home. My garage is a far cry from the Garagemahal!

It's great to hear the auction went well, and reasonably stress-free. It's also nice to know that you've decided to keep a couple of the cars. Good choices, too!

Bring a Trailer simply reports on cool cars and car stuff for sale. They also offer a "for sale" service for a fee, where they feature your car(s) prominently on their site. Seems to work pretty well. Most of their income seems to come from advertising on their site. They get a LOT of traffic.

I have no doubt that inanimate objects such as cars ARE parts of some families and I'm very glad you've decided to keep a couple of Tony's cars.

My Uncle Jim, a lifetime car enthusiast and professional auto mechanic, died in 1999 at age 69. He left behind a lovely 1967 Mercury Comet Cyclone GT that he'd bought new. His son inherited it and has no intention of ever selling it. It's now meticulously restored to better than new (sadly, they won't let me drive it anymore! :cryin:).

It is part of the family.

Maybe Tony's beloved MGs that you've decided to keep will be, too.

Cheers, best wishes.

Just to be clear-- the auction is tomorrow, it's not over. I think I made muddied that last night by saying "48 hours, it's over". I meant that it will be over in that time (less than that now).

If you're bidding online, or coming from far away, Fowler Auction can bring your winnings to you. They're bringing the TD and B to me, they're very reasonable. They've had calls this week from Canada, Texas and New York and they've said none of those distances are too far for a delivery. Fowler really is a terrific group.

For those headed to Gurley, hope you enjoy the preview today and the festivities at The Nook tonight. Drink one for Dad, I know he'd love to be there with you all. The hardest thing about the next two days for me is knowing how much my dad would have enjoyed this event. I know he'll be with us in spirit! See you all tomorrow.

I'll be there tomorrow with mixed emotions.

Last time I saw Tony and Jerri was probably 3 years ago, give or take a few months. They came to my house to get the blue '79 that belonged to my late brother-in-law. We had lunch at Corky's BBQ and then they were on their way...with the 'B on Tony's custom made MGB trailer.

I always intended to visit the Garage Mahal and probably bring home a few parts, but never found the time. Now I'm making the time for the visit, but it's too late to enjoy the visit with Tony.

There's a lesson to be learned there....

Shannon -

I had at least ONE red ale for your dad this evening! :thirsty:

And Fowler Auction is one great bunch of guys! We managed to rearrange quite a few things around, and they were most amenable.

Gonna be a great day tomorrow!

Mickey-- So glad you all had fun. You know, Old Speckled Hen was his one of his favorites because of the MG connection! Hope it was a great turnout at The Nook and a good opportunity to put faces with usernames. See you tomorrow-- I'll call you in the AM as I head north.

Weather forecast looks good, at least it will be a beautiful day in Alabama, and the sun will be shining on The Autoist's collection. I wonder if Dad ordered up this lovely fall day. Can't you just imagine his conversation with God....

See you in a few.

Shannon

Doug -

I couldn't do otherwise!

It's in the upper 40's right now, and should be near 70 by noon. Gonna be a great day!

If you want, you can follow the online activity on fowlerauction.com.

Back online this evening with a report!
