Attention Dougie - racing video camera of choice

My son wants a video camera as used by racers. He isn't racing in this case, he is off-roading with a big honking Jeep. He wants to attach something to the Jeep Roll Bar. Any suggestions on make and model? He needs a camera that can stand up to the elements - not waterproof, but well protected.

Hello Lin -

I currently use a Flip HD video camera which is very easy to use, but the new manufacture is discontinuing them. My next purchase will be the ProGo.

I've been using a GoPro HD for two seasons and they're great. Huge range of mounting options and accessories. They come fully waterproof as standard and they work reasonably well in low light (see video). Only minor bitch is the sound clarity but you can't have it all plus the fish eye lens tends to accentuate the car's speed so you can flatter yourself!

I use Chase Cam PDR 100's on both my Elvas. The camera is about the size of my thumb and is wired to a remote deck which uses a video card. The result--both audio and video--are outstanding. See an example here:
