TR2/3/3A Attaching the temp capillary to the fuel line. 3A

Anyone have any tips on attaching the wrap around clips used to attach the temp tube to the fuel line? I'm talking about the aluminum ones with the two slots in the head. There are three that need to go on. I'm really not having much fun with these little rascals!

Thanks, Tinkerman

Yeah, I had to think about that one quite a bit when I first did it. What I wound up doing is wrapping it around, going through the inner loop hole, and then threading through the outer loop and bending it back in the other direction. I then cut off the excess.

Shhh! Don't tell the Conquerors Judges, but plastic cable ties work really well, easily and quickly in that application -- and they're cheap!

Dumb question - I assume the electricians tape under the clip is correct?

No, I don't think it's correct, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Edit: I had to change the temp gauge, so I wound up using those plastic tie wraps. They are much easier. But, I'm gonna send out my original gauge for refurbishing, and when it comes back, I'll definitely put back the original aluminum clips. I have so many mods on this car, but for some reason, I just like the look of those original clips. I saved the originals. If you're careful, they can be used over again.

I think the tape is more the fabric friction tape variety, like hockey stick tape. I have some pictures around somewhere if you need them.

Now that you mention it, that's probably why I did put the electrician's tape on there, as I remember seeing something there when I disassembled the car. You are probably right about the fabric content. The color as I remember it was also fairly light...not black, but then again, it might have faded.

Where's Don Elliott?? He would know.

I can't swear what I did was correct but it was an attempt to duplicate what I saw in factory photos. Do not recall if that is friction tape or adhesive tape painted black but it is fabric.

On the straps I worked out a thru & back threading that was secure and looked about right... then trimmed the excess.

Sorry that I didn't get any photos up in time. The original clamps on mine were not cut off just wrapped around. No tape but who knows over the 50 some years.

Here's a pic of mine, before I disassembled it for repair:

Here's another of the Aluminum piece; not clipped in any way...

There is a black friction type cloth tape under there...

IMO Geo Hahn & Kevin Brown photos are the most correct.
It was definitely the old cloth friction tape underneath.
To confuse matters, the Moss repos are slightly longer
than the originals.
Speaking as a former (volunteer) judge at two TRA events,
as long as they are positioned properly and appear to be
the correct material, there will not be any "de-merits"
