Well, I'm not sure what I'm reaping but it looks a bit better. I had tried one piece of carpet over the gear box cover but it didn't look right.

So I got out the wife's sewing machine and made it out of 10 (!) pieces:

Still not happy with the "patchwork" effect, but hey!

All this new stuff made the back look ratty so I re-did that:

That bit was relatively easy - just trial and error (cautiously) cutting the pieces to fit. Carpet material was $15 and I have half of it left.

Front doesn't look so bad when I put my sunglasses case and mascot on the tunnel. :laugh:

It looks nice Adrian. I kind of like the effect created by the bias tape/ribbon at the seams.

I sewed a couple of carpet pieces for the Mini. It was a bear to do as I was using regular household carpet, not automotive carpet. I hope you were working with lighter material.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, that is "ribbon" - the fabric shop did not have proper edging tape.

They did have car carpet in the back - not much of a selection but they had black. Very nice to work with, stiff as cardboard and doesn't need edging. That is what I used in the back of the car.

The carpet on the tunnel was even thinner (can't remember where I got it from) but it was taxing the sewing machine when I was sewing all together. :laugh:

The carpet from front to back is all one piece and I even done the edging all round - probably unnecessary as you can only see it on the back piece. That was very difficult to do and if anyone knows the proper technique I would be most interested to know.

Can't imagine how you sewed regular carpet!
