My midget does not want to go back together. I just want to get the old engine in place and running so that I can start work on a fuel injection system. So I pick my best pair of carbs and do a quick rebuild(few months ago). Then last night I connect the cables and the fuel and vent lines and make the initial settings and prepare to bolt on the air filters.
I can find the base plates but no cans. Searched for an hour. Sooo, I decide to just cut a couple of round plates to mount on top of the filters. It takes a little time cut these.
Go to bolt them in place... and... the threads are stripped in the carb bodies. There is not enough room to drill for helicoils while the carbs are mounted so I guess I'll takes them back off. I love working in the 95 degree heat and humidity!
Why did I not check those holes when I rebuilt the carbs. I have a bag full of helicoils just for those things since they are almost all worn.
Apparently, it just was not a good day to work on the car.
