armrest attachment

My BN6 currently has no armrest (BN4s have the saddle type armrest, BN6s do not) I would have installed one by now but am not sure of the best way to affix it to the carpet that covers the trans tunnel. The idea of using contact cement or hot melt doesn’t appeal to me. And even Velcro probably involves gluing down hook or loop strips. It has occurred to me that if I attach Velcro hook strips to the underside of the armrest, it may have enough grab with the carpet to keep it in place? How did the factory do it? Any suggestions? Thanks

Nevets,

About 300 of the first BN6s left the factory with saddle type armrests. These were car numbers 501 to about 850. The pad type that you refer to was then introduced. These were sewn onto the carpet.

I had the same concern, how to attach the arm rest to the carpet. I also had a concern over the fact that the rest was so low that it wasn't comfortable. I took a second perspective and built a 2" box extension contoured to the tunnel then made a hinged lid and mounted the arm rest on top. Now I have a little consel for sun glasses, sun screen, etc. AND it's now useful. I put it in place drilled [2 holes] through the consel base and the tunnel. Then I went under the car and installed 10/24 bolts through the holes. Removed the consel secured the bolts with nuts [so they don't fall out] then installed the consel over the bolts and utilized another nut to secure it in place. I was going to send you a picture, but just realize my son boroughed my digital camera - I get it back next week. If you want a picture let me know and I can send it.

Regards, Bob
