Are you smarter then an averageAmerican?

12 for 12. NPR, MSNBC, CNN, CNBC. No Fox, ever!

Darn! I blew one question (didn't think we imported THAT MUCH foreign oil)!

Yep, 70% IIRC. Guees from what what country we get the most?
Canada.

I got 11 out of 12; not bad for a foreigner.

YOU WIN !!!

(now tell the truth, did you google it or did you know? With 11 out of 12, I'd say you knew!) :winner1:
Knew it.

I would have had 12, but everyone says that the real unemployment rate is closer to 15% rather than the official 10%. No political comments please.

'k.... but may I say: "MEETOOO!!"

I thought I got two wrong, but for some strange reason, I got them all right. Don't know how that happened. Good guesser, I guess! Nice to be in the 2% though. PJ

I guess not much about politics or da gubment. They are usually about the earth, solar system, machines or shows about cars. I'm no dummy just really never paid much mind to those things.

vping: just kidding actually. I recall you mentioning that you're an engineer. Me too. Our minds tend to focus on other things. :yesnod:

But, this kind of quiz is a gentle reminder that much is going on around us. Today's young folks need to get in tune for the sake of their future.

~THAT~ suprises me! ( At least what I think you're sayin')

Huh?

y'mean that some folks answer a "test" question with what their understanding of a "right" answer is, instead of what the "testers" were lookin' for? Kinda common in my experience.

Folks, please lets keep the political and/or ideological comments out of this thread. As long as we all love little British cars, what we watch or don't watch or who we listen to or don't listen to, really doesn't matter here, ok? Thanks,
Basil

11 for 12 here -- I couldn't remember if we imported 1/3 or 2/3 of our oil, so I guessed between the two!

That reminds me, I need to change the oil in the Tiger this winter!

Same here.

That reminds me, I need to change the oil in the <span style="font-style: italic">Miata</span>. :jester:

That's right, I forgot you have a Miata! Great little cars! We sold Mary's 2001 last year, but ended up replacing it with a 2003 (used) BMW Z4. The Z4 is similar to the Miata in terms of the fun factor - just a tad bigger and a 6 cyl vice the 4.

Yeah, life's too short not to have at least one soft-top car.

I've never been without at least one roadster or convertibles since '67 (1st = MGA).

I bought the Mazda new, almost 10 years ago. I hate to say this in a British car forum, but the Miata is the best car I've ever owned, bar none. And ownership over the last 10 years has been completely no-drama. Mine's got about 90,000 miles now. Original plugs, air filter, belts, hoses and even battery.
Really, all it's needed is tires, brakes pads and oil changes.
And that includes a lot of " ~track day~ " time.
If I ever wrecked it, I buy another one the next day.

The Z4 is a great car. Better for "big" states like your's, where cars make long runs at high speeds. My shorter-geared Miata "lives" at 4500 RPM on all my local highways.
The Z4 styling is controversial of course. But we could say the same thing about a TR3 or an MGA.

The title of this thread reminds me of Garrison Keillor's (fictional) home town, Lake Wobegon, "<span style="font-style: italic">where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average</span>".

I've heard that, but to be honest, I like it a lot. More importantly, my wife loves it, so that's all I care about (it's her car after all). She loved her Miata too, and darn near broke out in tears when we sold it.

My only beef with the Z4 is the lack of decent storage space inside the car. The glove box is microscopic and there is just a little cubby between the seats that is mounted vertically, so its difficult to reach back and open and close.

I really like the Z4. Never drove one but the styling is nice. Drove an 2000 once. Now that was fun.

I got 12 for 12, not bad for someone who doesn't even have a subscription to a local newspaper..Get most of my news off the internet and I must be keeping up with more than I realized.

I got 11 out of 12 and my soon to be college bound son (18) got 10 out of 12. I am proud he is in touch enough with the news to get that many. So many teens just have no idea what is happening in the world and get their news from Facebook
