Are we the last generation of restorers?

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:] I wonder if 50 years from now anyone will be able to restore a 2008 automobile.[/QUOTE]

Probably not, where will they get the gasoline, and if they can, at what cost?

We'll have synthetic gasoline by then, made from ameoba droppings. I am not making that up, see the posting elsewhere on BCF. But wait, we won't need roads and actually the earth will be an active museum and resort that we'll visit on weekends and holidays.....

I need to go now, Nurse Ratched says it's time for my medication!! LOL

I personally think 30 + years from now people will be restoring 2008 vehicles. The highly sought after cars will be your Z06 Corvettes, Mustang Cobra’s, M5 BMW’s, AMG Benz’s.

I’m 27 years old and I’m restoring a car that’s 6 years older than I am. I can see myself at 50 or 60 years old buying that 2008 “fixer upper” Z06 that I grew up seeing and admiring but never could afford.

That is interesting. When I got my TR3A it was six years older then me and I was only 17 at the time. Fast forward 30 years and I was restoring a TR4A that was five years younger then I was. So your statement may be right but you may not be buying a 2008 "fixer upper" it might be a 1985 something or other. What was the last year they made TR8s?????

Old timers & Old cars kinda have the SAME sputtering issue don't they, leaking from every orfice...they just plug it up & keep on going.Like lettin the air out of ALL four tires at they same time. The SPARE TIRE is another issue;-)

I think if you raise your kids up around it, they'll come back to LBCs. My dad was gracious enough to basically give me his POS Jensen Healey while I was still living at home / going to school. Been in love w/ british cars ever since, and I was lucky enough to buy my current TR6 while still in my 20's -- well, I'm 31 now.

Some days I'm 16 again, other days I'm 57 and some days I feel like I'm 80.

Sadly the 80's seem to happen more than the 16's, but as long as I'm still here I guess it's OK.

Two summers ago, we ended up with a Mini Wagon because it could take the whole family. The kids LOVE the car. I snapped up the Jag because it too is a "family" car that we can all ride in. I will involve my kids - 5, 7, 10 - as much as sanely (mine) and safely (theirs) possible. LoL Who knows if they will become addicts - er fans like Dad, but they already have an appreciation for old cars.

I'm adding another generation.

I'm trying to use him as an excuse to talk my wife into letting me get a wedge. I figure if I get it now, I'll have it ready by his sixteenth birthday.

OF COURSE British cars make one feel young....Its that SECOND CHILDHOOD thing.British invented that term.I had WHITELIGHTNING out TODAY ALL AROUND the city, paying bills, going to walmart, bank, you name it.AND i had my black driving gloves on & special golf/driving lid on,& my full cockpit cover half on.And i felt SPECIAL never afraid to advertise my penchant for LBC's,their were sooo many doubletakes i had to really pay attention.

Congrats to you and your bride, John!

If you need any "ammo" for the battle for a Wedgie, let me know... :jester:

Just do it
Do it now - as soon as that wee thing arrives, you won't be able to. Trust me...

I'm 35. My wife is 37. My stepdaughter is 12. And I have another daughter to be born in August. Trust me... All of us have the lbc bug. I even talk to my unborn one and say "MG, Triumph, Jaguar, Healey - Those are the cars to have and restore." and she wiggles with joy. hehehehehe.

I’m making sure my daughter gets the “LBC bug”. Hopefully I don’t turn her too tomboyish, but she will definitely grow up knowing how to change her oil, a flat tire……. and maybe tuning ZS carbs.
