Bought these caliper pistons a few years ago from Victoria British. Part 3 7-973. Says they are steel but looking at other pistons from other suppliers their steel pistons say they are nitrate coated. These have the same finish (look) as pics of the nitrated pistons on line. Does anyone know if the VBs are coated?

From the number it looks like those are plain steel. Other and better options, IMO, are stainless or chrome plated. I've not heard of nitrate (titanium nitride?) coating.

Yep...I assume he means nitride, which is a nitrogen surface treatment. Nitrate is a fertilizer/explosive.

Add the titanium with it and you can find caliper pistons so treated. I haven't looked that hard but I didn't see any for Triumph but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

The steel ones are good enough, IMO, but the stainless and the chrome pistons will probably last longer on not tend to seize in the calipers.

You are correct Steve. I saw hose on BPNW the other day and had to dig these out to compare. Has the same finish as the BV ones and I paid about that same price a few years ago. I remember thinking they are an odd color for steel when I unpacked them. Just need something to last as this is going to be my daily driver in a few years when I retire. Don't want to be tearing calipers apart at 70+ years old and probably won't be able to find a tech to be able to rebuild them ether.
