Are these of any use now??

Cleaning a tool cabinet and came on these fellows in the back of a drawer under something and wondered if they still had a use today. The book is dated Dec 1963 and apparently contains the specifications for SU needles measured at about a dozen different points. I imagine that is so the needles can be duplicated if they are not available from a retail source. The book appears to be complete with 21 pages of data but does show the result of decades in service:

The other tool appears to be a mechanical SU carb sync tool. From researching on the 'net it appears to be minus the jet adjusting wrench. I have always used a Uni-Syn or Morgan Carb-Tune and doubt that I could even use one of these kits. It contains what is shown here.

Do these tools still have a use or should I just consign them to the box of dull screwdrivers and worn sockets and pliers in the corner?

I suspect you could still use them - though whether you want to.... I was relatively recently gifted an SU tuning kit form this very Forum, and hope to try it soon. In terms of the Needle chart. If you go here, https://mgaguru.com/mgtech/books/pdf/Tuning_SU_Carburetors.pdf on page 10 you will see where the measurements are taken and on page 42 it is actually a duplicate of the picture you posted. The dimensions are there potentially for turning, but, mostly for tuning - to get the exact performance across a range of rpms. I love that kind of paraphernalia and have a small collection. At the very least you might want to scan the charts and psot them - just for fun.

Still use them weekly on different cars.

That might be possible; would they be posted in a regular posting? in which forum? or is there a forum reserved for such data?

I have no reason not to part with them for the price of postage if someone had a real need or interest, though

Not sure if we can post files on the Wiki part of the forum. I know I have a number of scanned files. None are posted though they are available (Mostly Midget related) Can't say I have a "real need" but I do have an interest, and would be happy to cover postage - and scan and post, especially if the alternative is the dull screwdriver box.

Thanks for the suggestion... the carb tool isn't complete, though; it's missing the jet wrench that every guy with an SU-equipped car used to carry on his key chain.

I'm not excited about getting into eBay for 1 item. Maybe some day I'll run into somebody who has a kit that's missing something else and I can give it to him/her.

Yes, thank you. You can verify what you sent by clicking on "sent items" while you're in private messages.
I sent you another PM and I clicked on everything that said "Sent Messages" while I was in the PM area and all I get is one very old PM that I sent when I first registered for the group. I get none of the messages I sent you recently sand I've run out of places to look!

Never mind... I found that my settings were to NOT save a copy of sent messages to the sent folder. That has been changed and we'll see if it has been corrected.
