I say no. I have a heater for my garage and read online somewhere that you can use either. I need to run out and get some Kerosene for the heater this morning but the stations only sell deisel around here.
 
Diesel will stink! You can get kerosene from Lowes or Home Depot or farm supply or large hardware stores.
 
NO. Kerosene and diesel are different.

Diesel is widely used as a fuel and would be more readily available. Kerosene is not so often used- often for camp lighting and heating so a supplier of those goods might also stock the stuff.

I believe Diesel is thicker and less volatile. Unless your equipment specifies that you can use Diesel I would suggest you not try doing so, and that the proper fuel would work better, and the other might not work at all, or be dangerous...
 
Never use straight kerosene in a diesel engine or anything that requires diesel fuel! Kerosene has no lubricating qualities which is needed to lubricate the diesel pump and the upper cylinder walls. Straight kerosene will wipe out a diesel pump and possibly scar the cylinder walls! At 800 to over a 1000 bucks plus to replace the pump alone, it's not a good idea.

As others have said kerosene and diesel are not the same but you may be able to use either in your heater if the manufacturer says it is OK. My torpedo heater can use kerosene, diesel or #2 fuel oil.

I agree with you Chris. As long as the manufacture says so it's perfectly cool, ahh I mean hot, ahh whatever.

Ok just checked and it's an All pro 115,000 heater and used any of these three fuels. Maybe I will pursue the Kerosene if it will stink less.
 
Kerosene, fuel oil, diesel, and jet fuel are similar, but not the same. As far as your heater, try the purest form of kerosene you can get. Ultra pure is expensive verses plain kero, but it burns much cleaner and with less odor. This is what most kerosene lanterns use. I think most home improvment stores should carry some. Those torpedo heaters will burn just about anything (but I wouldn't burn :just about anything").
