I stopped by my local exhaust shop today and asked about having them do the work to replace the exhaust system on the Tunebug -- everything back of the header. I'm going up to 1.75" pipe and a new muffler. They've got everything in stock, so I'll be dropping the car off in the morning (I happen to be off work today and tomorrow). This should get be back on the road.

Nice folks, they even knew what the Tunebug was (and had worked on a Model A that morning). It's nice to have a shop handy that can handle custom work.

I'm considering the same thing for my Midget. My engine has all kinds of goodies in it from the PO, with the stock (restrictive) exhaust system, resonator and transverse (big) muffler.

It would be very interesting to learn the general cost of your exhaust system, if that's not too intrusive . . .

Thanks!

Dropped him off this morning, should be done lunch time or then thereafter. I'll let you know the cost. Don't expect it should be too bad -- needs to be done in any case.

This is the first time I've left him anywhere. Did take a minute to let the mechanics know how to get in and start him up. Mechanic knew it was a Sprite right off, though, so that's always a good sign.

(Top's up in case we get a rain shower this morning.)

The car is home, but I haven't had a chance to check anything yet. Hope to get to test it out on Saturday. Been a crazy week.

Yes, it has been a full moon fever this week.

Will keep the fingers crossed for the weekend.

Drew, do you have hub caps for the tunebug?

I was thinking that the repair shop was in a rough neighborhood,
& maybe someone stole them.

Hub caps are on my shelf. I keep them off while I'm working on the car, in case I need to pull the wheels.

Took a test drive today...

...and the car's going to have to go back in. The muffler they used is way too loud (sounds like a straight pipe). Can't blame them for that, they did as I asked (flow > quiet) but this is too annoying.

Also, the chirping sound is still there, and I put my hand near the header - pipe connection and there's still air flowing there. I'll call them on Monday and get the car back in.

You do know that Hub caps do come off ever so easy with a paint can opener.

Car's going back in on Thursday for a quieter muffler and leak fix.

But if I'm in there a lot, there's no need to leave them on, then off, then on...

Besides, I sorta like the look without the caps.

You will until the lug nuts rust to the studs.
You DO know why there are hubcaps, or enclosed acron nuts on hubs, right?

I'll put the caps back on once I'm done with the fettling. Besides, it's *very* dry here in Utah, and this car doesn't see rain anymore.

Off again this morning to drop the car at the shop for a *quieter* muffler and a bit of tweaking to get a better seal at the header-to-pipe connection.
