Been working on the beast for some time now. Taking it nice and slow. Working some in the evenings and a little on week-ends. Got it all primed up, painted trunk, cockpit, bottom of hood, trunk lid, inside of doors, and door jams. Let it cure for a few days and installed doors, hood and trunk lid.
Saturday was paint day. Wet down the surronding area and got car ready for paint. Things were looking good. Wind had died down, the sun was out, and Temp about 83 F. Got the first coat on and was well pleased with the way it looked. Was refilling paint cup for second coat when I pulled on the air hose for a little more slack when the coupling on the air line fouled on something on the ground and disconnected blowing sand all over everything.
Oh well, I did find a couple of places that I should have paid more attention when block sanding. Now I will have time to try and make it better.
I e-mailed Tony with a parts list that I will not be needing as soon as I thought.
One of those projects that I think I will never finish.
I know that I will catch it about painting outside, well under a pole barn but I like doing it myself and have done it a few times before (some years back).
Tom

I'm glad you reminded me of that order, Tom...I just placed 2 huge ones w/Moss & VB but had laid yours aside to check parts #'s on...will email you total right now

At least the next time your "color coded primer" will be real smooth! Seriously though, sorry to hear about the mishap.

Tony, thanks.
I did want to ask you about the weather strip for the trunk. The part # I had down was for the latter model, on body not on lid. Is this the one that was discussed on an earlier thread that was easier to install. The one called for on the 74.5 B is the one to install on lid. Can I use the one that is on body?
Thanks,
Tom

You can use either on the car...I also prefer the one on the body...you just have to remove the weatherseal from the trunk itself...actually, either trunk will fit a car..you just have to choose your weatherstrip.

(oh, did you notice I found the # for those fuzzies?)

Yes I did notice and I thank you. I had seen them listed before but could not find them Friday.
Price looks good just need to know how to proceed from here.
Thanks,
Tom

Oh Tom, I feel for you.

Jack,
It's not that bad. Could have been a lot worse. I had not even started on the beer yet. I did make up for the no beer yet though. If I had a few when it happened I would probably have tried to correct it then with more paint or maybe even tried to clean it off with thinner. Really was hard to just leave it alone and wait. Maybe tomorrow it will be cured enough to work with.
Nothing that is worth while seems to be easy.
Tom

ACK!! I shot this MGB in the driveway... had just started withthe cut-ins (door jambs, edges, inside the doors)... had NO idea polyurethane paint was an attractant to "love bugs"! They came swarming in the thousands, literally! Fresh paint was coated with the li'l bastages. They didn't care at all about fiberglass resin, All-Metal, Panel Bond, epoxy primer... none of it. But as soon as the first bit of that colour coat was on the car, they started swarming. I had a "cabana" cover that was BLACK with 'em, and everywhere there was fresh colour it was "furry" with 'em. I had to wait for weeks until they were "out of season". I left a few in some hidden spots just as a reminder: "Just when ya think it's safe to go outta the house..."

My sympathies Tom!! Oh! As "inspiration":

It will work out. Have one for the both of us! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

DrEntropy, I am inspired. That is one nice looking MGB. Hope mine turns out as good.
thanks,
Tom

And yes I will. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif Maybe a couple extras just for you.

That looks great doc. I've never seen the whole deal only small bits.

Tom, an old trick when using a coupled air hose is to loosely tie the two hoses together in a knot before coupling them. This provides some strain relief, and should prevent them from accidentally unplugging.
I know, a bit late for the advice, but it may help someone in the future.
Jeff

Update on the sandy beast.--- Just now forund the forum was back up. Great.

Well I did manage to get started removing sand and paint Tuesday or Wednesday. Found out that top coat makes a really good giude coat. Did mostly block sanding to remove the color coat and found many, many low spots that I thought I had corrected. Took it all the way down so that another prime coat was required. Saturday morning looked like the last chance I would have for a few days to put color back on. Went by the parts store for reducer that would be needed for the cooler weather but they didn't have what was needed. I really wanted to get the beast painted and decided the go ahead with the slow reducer I had that was for much warmer weather. Well as might be expected, it turned out no so good. I think the term is "Blushing". Will be sanding again and repainting with proper reducer.

I have enough paint left and it is starting to be fun. I guess I am just trying to put off putting it all back together.

Will have to buy more beer.

I'm now somewhat concerned about your ventilation and filtering mask protocols there, Tom. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

The beer thing is okay tho. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Plenty of ventilation, under a pole barn.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif Yes!

LOL at Doc.

Tom take your time, do the preperation and it will come out fine.

Patrick

Doc,
Really it is starting to be fun. I don't think anything is effecting my judgement. But the way things are going I think I will try putting color back on Thursday as it is supposed to rain then. The dust will be less and the rain will make it easier to wet sand. I think spraying in the rain the paint will flow better.
I'll then watch Captain Kangaroo and play Solitaire with a deck of 51. There's nothing wrong with me.
They're coming to take me away.

lordloveaduck.... will someone please go over t' Tom's place and ~rescue that CAR~!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Heh, I'm closest and no way I am going to get involved.

Come on Jack, I've already invited you before.
And Doc, I don't think at this point one could still call this a car. It's a paint blotter.
Most fun I've had in a while. Keeps one from taking their self too serious.
Tom

Believe me, I know the drill! Humbled more'n once by events like this.
