Hi everyone,

After months of searching, I've finally found the appropriate panels to get the Cortina back together. There's just one pretty big issue-the parts are in Berkeley, CA and I'm in New York. I need to ship the following parts:

A front-right fender, attached to a radiator core support/valance panel:

A hood:
(See my sig for an idea of the scale, I don't seem to have any pictures of a hood by itself.)

Does anyone know of a company that would be able to ship cross-country and has experience transporting fragile, hard-to-find pieces like these? I would really appreciate any leads!

Thanks,

Mike

I would definitely want that in a solid crate. It's not gonna be cheap! Sorry, I don't have a carrier to recommend.

Would it fit on a pallet? I shipped a Midget Top via Greyhound - just bubble wrapped. I am not suggesting Greyhound, but, surely someone could move one pallet?

Another would be to call a moving company to see if there is a load with some space coming your way - then they could wrap it in blankets.

I would not pallet it unless you could fit it into a Gaylord box. Cortina hood would be a close fit.
if so any cartage company at that point could do it

Talk to a car transport company. With the auctions in place, you might be able to get a ride with them. Any dealer of high end cars may help as they ship cross country now. Amelia Island, Scottsdale etc. Like F40 Motorsports, Carrini. Or line up forum members to move across states. I could go from KC to Indy.

I've also found Amtrak (of all people) to be inexpensive... boxed up and delivered to their nearest station (and one must pick-up from the nearest station).

Alright, thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately the seller has patently refused to be involved whatsoever in crating, so I'll have to look for companies which would include that service.

R+L ?

Pennsylvania company too.

Is there anyone on this board near Berkeley who could possibly help with the crating?

Maybe I'm missing something here - Mike, you're in NY; parts are in CA. When you bought the parts, what was the shipping plan?

Parts aren't officially "bought" yet, but these are the only ones we've found thus far that meet our criteria. I was given a contact number in Arizona who gave me a different Arizona number who suggested a company like Mayflower or Atlas for crating and shipping combined. Ray at RD Enterprises (for you Lotus guys) also suggested we look into a freight forwarder in the Berkeley area, which is something I'll have to research.

Sorry, but with past experience with Mayflower, I wouldn't use them for anything you don't want broken! Almost $1,000.00 worth of damage to three pieces of furniture on our last move, and some items we've never found! They also use local inexperienced idiots for off loading, who have no clue what their doing.
