Howdy gang!

Ok, first some disclosure before I ask my question. I'll admit to being a huge Trekie. As a kid, I did stuff like cut the neck off a yellow turtleneck, make a star fleet badge out of tin foil, and carve phasers out of wood. Yep, I was that kid.
So, of course, I'm excited (and a bit skeptical) about the new movie. I figure it's a great opportunity to further pass along my chronic geekdom to my sons, ages 7 and 10.

Here's my question. While I certainly expect that Jim Kirk will be chasing every skirt in the galaxy, the previews show glimpses of scenes that look pretty racy for young eyes. If anyone has seen the new film, I'd love thoughts on whether you think it's age-appropriate, and whether I'll have to shield the boys' eyes only a few times.

If the new Kirk doesn't speak like that, then it won't be the same.
 
Picard didn't speak like that and TNG was still good... granted, a far cry from the original series, but still good.

I do miss the Vulcan Mind Meld... if only I could use that on my wife...
 
We were hoping that the new Kirk would Shatner it up a bit, but I agree, it doesn't look like that's the case.

Still cant wait to see it.

Saw it last night it was pretty good. Story was decent and allows for the series to reboot in a different direction but I thought the villan was kinda weak. Effects were down right wild and the green girls are back. I have to give it to the cast as most of them did a good job. Best star trek film without a doubt since the 4th with the second one still being the best of them all.

This is one to see on the big screen and I'm going to see it again on the moster screen down in fargo. I would kill to see this one in Imax.
 
The scene of concern referred to last about 1 minute and is completely unnecessary. Unfortunately, network broadcast TV shows at least as much, probably more. In any event- it is people in underwear and an implied sexual encounter developing, but no sex as there is an interruption (and more underwear).

Like I said, all told, about 1 minute or less.
 
I took my kids and we liked it, nothing your kids could not see on TV after 2100. The special effects were awesome, the plot was decent, and the movie moved along at a nice pace. We are not a big Trek fans, not at all, but we will see any additonal Trek movies. Pretty cool how they pull all the characters into the plot
 
I loved it. For me, it competes with Khan...but in all honesty, I never saw Khan on the big screen, so I understand it's not the most fair comparison.
 
T'pao was HOT when she was young. :devilgrin:
