Can't beat that five speed. Just keep your hand off the shifter knob while running down the road, and you should be o.k.

Getta arm rest if you need someplace besides the wheel to put your right hand.

What, like I'm gonna give up masturbation? Cha!

I know where you can pick up a nice AUTOMATIC tranny for that Fiat conversion, Eric! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

These engines are extremely susceptible to improper maintenance.

To be fair, Fiat Spiders were meant to be "throw away" cars, much like their LBC counterparts. Longevity was not their selling point. Most original owners treated them as such. And like many two seaters of the era, monumental proportions of them were purchased by the fairer sex; those not generally noted for their attention to auto maintenance detail.

However, the engineering that went into those twin cams are the grandfathers of every OH twin cam in existance today.

Basically, it is a great engine. Will you automatically get one that needs no work before it is reliable....prolly not. But then, what other 30 year old engine would you make the swap with and not consider rebuilding first?
