Progress report.
All parts are here, including new Vernier adjustable timing gear Optima battery and mount.
The head is nearly done. Three angle valve job, a little polishing in the chambers, guides are cut for seals and seals on the way (not Teflon). Bob made 0.030" custom shims to fit under the new springs and is machining spacers that will fit the new full length inners, yet keep them centered from moving without causing spring bind. This will give the correct pressure and spring height as well as prevent any walking of the springs on the head. CC' work will take place when the block is shaved and zero deck height set. I got all new intake valves to match the new SS exhaust valves.
The block was mounted to the line bore machine on Saturday. Bob will start the line bore and cam bearing work tomorrow. After that, cylinder bore and deck shave (or maybe that is done). The block was upside down, so I couldn't tell.
Thrust washers. Bob researched many Triumph sources and decided that the original design was done for a reason and I guess that it makes sense to me now that he's explained it. The thrust washers were installed in the block side only to allow the block to take the torque and thrust of the crank moving back and forth. He does not feel that it would be a good idea to put a thrust washer on the bearing cap, as the cap can move just enough to cause a potential problem down the road and he doesn't like pinning or screwing them in. So, he's going to cut a bit more out of the block and install Helms thick bronze thrust washers and make me a matching spare set that I will hopefully never use.
Rods. The rods have been modified to allow for the ARP bolts, the shot peening is done and they are being resized to fit the new bearings and will have new bushings installed on Monday.
Balancing. All rotating parts will be balanced after machining is completed. This includes the clutch, flywheel, damper and anything else that moves.
Bob will build up the short block complete and set valve timing while at his shop.
Sooooooo, with any luck, it will be done by the weekend and ready to go back Erik's for head installation and back in the car next week. By then, all new wiring will be installed and ready to go.
Hopefully, this will all happen by then.
Sorry for the long winded answer, but there is a lot happening here.
