Makes me want to rush out and buy it; how about you?
 
I think someone eventually should buy it and fix it up, restore it. So long as it's authentic and has been well cared for over the years. The "buy it now price" may be hurting it, and better and more photos would help sell it.

We see some cars go for top dollar. Sometimes the presentation is a big part. We see that in many cars. Some are not just well cared for, but presented in a way makes you want to buy them and drive them now. Speed and power never seem to be the selling points on the Classic LBCs. Quality, care and "correctness" prevail. The cars sell themselves. Nothing new to folks on this Board.

Hopefully, that one will fall into some good hands.

The TR5 is an iconic TR that we were deprived of here in the USA. We daydream about it here on the forum. So here it is...available, and a standard 250 is bid to 36k to the 5's 20k something.

Martin, of Sports Car Market Mag., calls TR owners...cheap.
Why should the collector car world place value on our cars if we don't.

I`d wager he may get in the mid $20K bracket?? Where did it end on the previous listing??

I disagree. Since there is another thread going on the same subject, clearly I'm not the only one.

That capitalized rant is both unprecedented and noteworthy.
 
Well I agree, presentation and reputation are what you need to get the big bucks on ebay. However, I listed my car there, and I'll say this, it is a hassle dealing with people who want to buy on the cheap. It don't help that ebay seems to be a haven for suckers who believe the low milege claims on the majority of the cars. As to keeping the car original, I kept the smog on mine because I knew taking it off would hurt the value, however, NOBODY can make one run worth 2 cents with 2 ZS carbs and the original set up, ie, low compression, vacuum retard, sissy camshaft, small valves. And, they ain't worth having without OD.

But I am glad he pointed out to all the "non-believers" that the only Triumph rarer than a TR5 is a TR8. Should help when I want to put my TR8 on eBay--NOT! :lol:

Actually, rants like that aren't all that rare on ebay, but I agree with you about it being unprecedented being attached to a TR5 as I've never seen a TR5 for sale on ebay over here.

It seems pretty clear that the seller is ticked with the side emails and hassles and this is the result, its just surprising he wants to give it another go. Frankly I hope he gets what he wants for it, I agree completely with 4aKen's comments on this.

When you put your wares in the public domain, this is what you can expect to happen. This is no different than listing your telephone number or address in the local paper want ads and putting up with the door bell ringing at 6:00AM or 11:00PM or incessant phone calls from people who don't have the money to buy it.

It's called sales and it's not easy. If you can wait for the right buyer at the right time and the right place, you'll get your sale. If not, start writing your rant....

Then I'm sure Martin will find that $41,500 "buy it now" a bargain. I wish him well with his new purchase of a mediocre TR5.

He <span style="font-weight: bold">is</span> going to scoop it up ASAP at that cheap price, right?

Not really mediocre. He should have detailed it and parked it in front of a tudor. How many threads has this listing generated? TR5, driver in overall good shape. I think it is worth what he is asking.
 
I just happened to run across BCF this week and enjoyed reading the entries on Tiumphs.

I own a 1962 TR-3B which is number 486 of 2804 produced. All 2804 TR-3B's were shipped to the US. A real TR-3B has TCF in front of the ID numbers. I believe that low production number makes them rarer than the TR-5 that is subject to discussion.

Exactly! Thank goodness it was a great day here in Texas, I had the 4 out and drove away all those pent up hostilities. Hope Pennsylvania weather is treating you kindly as well. But just to clarify, I don't need to find the oil leaks - they found me and my garage floor a long time ago.

Nope the engine runs, the gears shift nicely the back end isn't whining any more, and I can even close the drivers door while I'm IN THE CAR! I'm not even the leading cause of oil spills on the street anymore. All the other problems can be ignored for the time being. Took the Herald out for a spin this morning, perfect temperature, a bit overcast. Yahoo.......
 
My car is in the shop. Sunday is pick on someone else day.
