TR6 Anyone running triple ZS on a TR6?

I'm thinking about putting the efi conversion on hold until winter so I can get my car back this year. I'm totally out of patience with the whole thing...

I still have the twin ZS carbs. I figure I could do a triple conversion for about $650 for the summer and then get most of it back when I sell it on at the end of the year.

My question is how much better is it really? I have no desire to drop $$$ into something that I'm going to have for only a few months, so SUs are out, and if it's not that much difference then I won't bother.

Oh and if anyone wants to sell on a 2nd hand setup, pm me.

Re: Anyone running trip ZS?

Alana,

I have them, and once I got the new throttle linkage from Rat-co, I love them. IMO the weakest link in Richard's kit was the linkage. I now have 100% of my possible throttle available to me, up from about 80%.

Coupled with a nice cam (I have Richards GP2 cam) it will run great. Unfortunately I changed so much during my rebuild that I can't give you an accurate assessment of just the carbs, but rather the entire package. But I can say, that my TR6 with 10:1 CR, GP2 cam, Roller rockers, triple carbs and headers will beat my 170hp 2700lb. SVT Focus to 60mph. Even more surprising is that will even outrun the Land Rover. I would have thought with the Disco's superior "brick in the wind" aerodynamics would allow it to overcome the slight power to weight disadvantage.

Thx, I have a ton of mods in the engine, the only thing it won't have is a CR bump, so it ought to be fairly stout hp wise - in fact I can get it engine dyno'd if I don't hang about deciding so I'll know exactly what it's getting.

There are a bunch of 6 ZS carbs on ebay right now for $125. I'll buy those and get one that works out of them, and add a manifold.

<edit> OK job done, conversion parts bought. I'm still a bit sick that it's going to be on carbs this year, but I'd rather have it running than not. The weather is just too nice to have it sit any longer. Hopefully this way I'll have it back when I get back from the UK - mid month.

I will attest to Shannon's description and exhilirating driving style. That is one sweet ride.

Hello Alan,

Triple ZS (velocity stacks) + Falcon headers & duals + 9.5:1 + GP2 cam + port, polished, flowed + rollers + fanless + Ab's cable throttle + bored 20 over = Yikes!

Have never redlined yet, still yikes.

Bill
(but I do believe that the bump in CR is the key)

I agree with Bill, compression is everything with these motors. Without it adding a cam may actually hurt your performace.

71tr, you actually rode in it BEFORE I got the throttle fixed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I'm not sure about the compression bump making *that* big a difference honestly. It should theoretically make only perhaps a few hp more. I can't up it to more than about 8.5:1 - remember the aim is to supercharge this thing when the efi goes on.

Regardless, I'll have engine dyno numbers from it, so I'll be able to say what a heavily worked over engine without a compression increase puts out on triple ZSs. If it's not great then no biggie - it's only for a few months.
