It's generational. If all examples of the cars you mention suddenly vanished I don't think I'd sense the vacuum.

You are probably right. I got my license in 1990, when AE86s and early MR2s were still a fairly common sight, even here. By now they've mostly rusted away or been wrecked.

Much as I like old MGs and other old cars, I have no nostalgia for them at all.
