My gear shift lever has started to rattle again after many years of silence. I believe the fix was a piece of rubber hose under the spring. Anyone remember the dimensions of that rubber fitting?:driving:

I found the fix. You put a piece of rubber or neoprene hose that is 5/8" inside diameter by 7/8" long under the spring. Press it down until it comes in contact with the fulcrum ball and reassemble the unit. The rubber or neoprene acts a vibration damper.

do you have a picture?
Google "TR3 anti rattle spring and plunger"....you will see a "Triumph Experience forum post"....scroll down to Randall's post and there is a link to a PDF that shows the factory repair solution. I am having trouble posting the actual PDF so maybe you can post it here? One thing about this repair is that it may cause difficulty in getting the gearshift lever to go into Reverse so you may have to modify the rubber size slightly.

How's this ?

In my case, the recommended length was too long. I shortened it to about 0.5 inch, and even that may be a bit long as getting into reverse is more difficult now. I should really try a bit shorter. Be prepared to experiment a bit. Cheers, Mike
