Anyone playing WORDLE?

It only comes out once a day. Sometimes you solve it in 5 minutes and sometimes you don’t solve it at all.

Mrs JP plays it (got it in three tonight) causes me WAAAAYYYY too much stress.

My sister got me hooked.

It's actually (can be) a very social game. Since the puzzle only refreshes once a day, and everyone gets the same word, it's easy to compare your results with your friends. If you got it in 2 but your friend took 4 tries, you're either smarter or luckier -- you know he can't accuse you of getting an easier word!

A lot more sharable than "Hey we just finished binging Squid Games!" "We haven't seen that one yet, we're still in the middle of Mrs. Maisel." "Have either of you seen that new show on Disney Plus?" "No, I only have Netflix." "I have Hulu and AppleTV, but not Netflix." (Actual transcript of an actual conversation at my wife's office)

The game also lets you share your results without giving away the answer, which is very clever. The first time I played I spoiled that day's game for 3 people before realizing what I was doing.

I’m hooked!
I got hooked on Tetras and Mombasa years ago.
Got so obsessed that i couldn't turn my mind off to either.
I won't go there again.

Speaking of crypto ...

Just watched "The Imitation Game" last night. While there was much license in the story, it reminded me of the dilemma which can result by solving a puzzle. If Bletchley/MI used the information found in the decoded German Enigma messages to save British/USA shipping from submarine attack, the Germans would stop using that particular system.

The scene where the words "weather" and "heil hitler" enable the machine to solve the puzzle is very cool.

I nearly deleted that show after a few minutes.
It was kind of slow at first.
Let it play for a while more and glad I did.

Another good show that Doc turned me onto is called Sandbaggers. It's a show centered around British Intelligence (and to some extent US Intel) during the Cold War. It is available if you subscribe to BritBox (and I do). It takes a bit of watching to get into it as it's sometimes rather slow and the sound quality is not the best (I find it sometimes hard to tell what the characters are saying unless I turn up the volume), but once I watched a couple episodes I was hooked.

My hearing is somewhat dodgy so I caption almost everything.
