Anyone need a datsun tranny?

Yeah, I'm still new to these cars and don't know whats a good deal. I do know a lot people are having trouble finding these things so I thought I'd try to help out.

I'll learn one of these days!

Low miles! Someone thought it was a good deal.

Kurt.

darn thats pricey. Makes me reconsider the one I found for $300
How well do those trans hold up? The one I found has 227k miles on it.

If it hasn't been looked over then I'd suggest making sure everything in there is in good shape and at least putting in new seals.
You don't want to install it and then find out you need to pull it and have it rebuilt - that's less than ideal.

Where were you last spring?
Why didn't you tell me that in May?

I'd have it looked at/ rebuilt. Still a deal at $300.

I believe Bill and I had mine out and in about 5 times.
We got it down to under two hours the last time!

Here's a timely tip -
Datsun transmissions employ a steel ring type spacer on the front shaft and there are several different sizes. At least this is so on the dogleg version of the transmission.
If you have the wrong size for your application you can get results like badly slipping clutch, disengaged all the time clutch, engaged all the time clutch.
We ended up carefully measuring and then choosing the right size spacer the last time.

This is about the holder for the throw-out bearing, there are a couple of sizes and the dogleg needs the short one (when it mates up to a Datsun engine).

So many variables, I thought for sure Bill would remember the details.
Thanks Bill.
