Around here we have "Earl's" ice cream trucks. the same fleet he's had since he bought them in the 50s. they look just like you'd see in an episode of "Ozzy and Harriet" very similar to the one in this post.
I like them much better that some of the new ones that have sprung up. talk about ugly...

There was a guy who used to sell ice cream in the parks around here all summer. When it got cold, he disappeared and we all thought that he was hibernating for the winter.
Turns out he was. He made enough on those routes to build a beautiful home in Florida and lived there every year from November until May. Never told anyone because he didn't want anyone to think it was profitable enough to do, so he could keep the routes to himself. We all thought that he visited his sister in Maryland when it got cold. And he never said that he wasn't.
No wonder he was always smiling.........

As I remember, our milk man drove a Divco and It was a stand up drive system. I never saw him set down. I think he had a throttle on the end of the column gear shift lever. It seemed like he just stepped in and the truck would immediately start moving to the next stop. Always fascinated me as a kid how it worked.
