.... have a lead on a cheap,safe car?
Our Daughter's Volvo S80 (which I tried to-
talk her out of buying),is making "bad noises".
Part of me wants to say "I told you so",but
the responsible part of me says "how can I help her?"
I think that she needs to sell it for whatever
she can get for it,or trade it "as is" for a cheaper,
more reliable car.
She doesn't have any money to buy a nice car,
& is working a minimum wage job.
Does anyone in her area have ideas/suggestions?

- Doug

My 21 YO daughter just bought her first car- a 1998 Ford Taurus because it is cheap, reliable, parts are easily available and is reasonably inexpensive to fix.
I like it since it is "big" and she just got her license (finally!!).

Turned out to be the catalytic converter.
Anyone know of an honest, reasonably priced muffler shop?
She had a few "mechanics" look at it,& not one of them caught
that.

I was wondering what "bad noises" was. Great luck. Now hows about that Anglia?

The Anglia is on 1/3 of the garage. No current pictures.
It's got parts/stuff piled on it/in it.My "Fun" project,once
everything else gets out of the way.
I was in the garage tonight, wondering if I should pay
someone to get the stuff that I can't seem to get done on the
Datsun '78 B210.
Back to the Anglia - I've spent many hours thinking about
things like "Alan Mann,or Broadsport paint scheme?" - "997cc,or-
1500/1600/Zetec/Duratec?".
The Anglia is the last one left sold by the local dealer.
It was bought by a gentleman who drove less than a mile each way
to work,at the local Chevron gas station in Trinidad,CA.
The good news is ......we're down to 9 vehicles!
Doc,help me out here.

Start looking for a transmission...

This is the vehicle that cured me of ever aquiring a late Ford product

Doug, the cat probably melted down when it was missing/ck engine light on.What year is the car, and what is the milage? Some things, like catalists are typically covered by the Federal emissions warranty for like 8 years, 85K miles Look in the owners manual. Otherwise, find a phone book, and look for a Volvo independant shop. Call around to the independants and try to find one that will work with you/her

Jesse,

It's a 2001 S80,with 177,000 miles on it.

Shinsen,

She lives in Glen Allen, also,so it's close by.
She works at the Starbucks in Short Pump.
Is that the same Mark Brown (vagt6)that's on the
forum?Thanks for the tip.

- Doug

Doug: no, it's not me! I used to live in Richmond, and now live about 65 miles west of there.

Cursed with a common name, I am! :cryin:
