Well stated, Todd. I've been following this thread, and agree completely with this last post of yours. From the description that tdskip has given, this sounds like a very good candidate and a good buy. Mine was original, but neglected, and was bought for just under $4500. The complete strip and paint, inside and out, was about the same amount. I've gone overboard on the engine rebuild, but did the work myself, so I'm just out for parts and machine work. Rebuilt the suspension myself, as well. Interior has been redone (again, my labor), and when it warms up, I'll upgrade the brakes.

This one will be a keeper, so I'm not too concerned with cost. Besides, it's a HOBBY! How many folks expect a return on their investment into a pastime? Ask anyone who hits the lake in a $25,000 bass boat with $5K in tackle, and gas at $2.whatever a gallon how much is expected when it's time to sell!

Oh yeah - forgot to mention. I bought all my engine goodies from Woody. Great guy, and lots of help after the sale over the phone.

Thanks guys - I can't start to tell you all how much I APPRECIATE the info and help.

Based on all the feedback I think I'm going to plan on buying her tomorrow - but before I do give her one last check again of the critical rust spots that you guys have pointed out.

One last thought. The aforementioned buddy that is doing a custom wiring job on his TR8 hardtop has a totally rust-free body , if that is hard to believe. He is rebuilding everything on the car, and doing the work himself, from interior to engine. Emron suspension, etc. Just parts, and he is frugal, including the original car cost, has him at 10K.

They only made 2800+, how many are still around
maybe 1500 more or less. Look at the big Healeys,
Sunbeam Tigers. The car is really cool and

2815 seems to be the number most people go with, but who knows for sure. BL was such a mess back then. What's even more remarkable is there were only about 400 coupes. You can diminish that number by the two I've wrecked racing. Maybe someday I'll reassemble all of the pieces I have stored in the basement onto clean body shells. Then again, if the prices don't go up, why bother. It's easier to go out and buy another one that's done!
 
I've gotta defer to Todd on the technical issues cuz he's got his head into these things a whole lot more than most of us. And he's right about getting your money out of a project car...BUT!!! sometimes you have to listen to your gut and throw the calculations out the window. If you're looking to turn a buck (or even break even) then this particular car may not be the best choice. However, if this car excites you, I mean keeps you awake at night thinking about it and doesn't have any fatal flaws and the price is decent then it sounds like you need to scratch that itch!

If you've got a reasonable level of mechanical/electrical/body capability, the small stuff will turn into a labor of love and you'll appreciate the drive that much more. One last tip - keep all your receipts but never add them up. Good luck.

ps: oh yeah, things to look out for...if the heat/vent levers all have their plastic handles consider it a bonus. It's probably the only one that does.

No Kidding, I was lucky as mine had all four orignal handles. The PO had already started to gather some replacements and I ordered a set of new ones from Brad at Wedgeparts. Last week my temperature control knob broke. I was miffed and chuffed all at once. Miffed because one broke, chuffed because I have replacements already. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Well for better or worse she is mine!

She made the drive without any problems, until I turned the lights on and the right light winked for what seemed like forever (probably about a minute) before it stayed up right.

The temperature gauge never went above halfway despite some stop and go traffic.

And she has all of her plastic handles even!

So one quick update - I had the audacity to actually lock the car and of course the doors won't open now.

Well at least it will be harder to steal now...

And so it begins - LOL.
