Anyone have a worn out old 948 engine for sale?

Hey there,

I am interested in finding a project engine for my BE. No, I don't want to take my car off the road to rebuild the one that's in it!(geez, I just got it ON the road!, but I am considering starting a rebuild project for those dark winter months (yeah, I've got a lot of vacation time to burn).

Any of you that have upgraded to a 1275 want to get rid of that lonely old 948 that's taking up space? Let me know, maybe we can work something out.

Geez, what's 948 in rebuildable shape worth, anyway? Guess I'll find out soon enough!

Thanks so much...

BillW

These show up on eBay occasionally; I think one was listed just a week or so ago. Check completed auctions, and maybe you can contact the seller. They almost never sell--I guess everyone wants a 1275. If I remember correctly, the one on eBay recently had a starting bid of $50 and it didn't even get that.

Of course, the difficulty and cost of shipping usually means that local pickup is the only practical option, so that limits the number of potential buyers.

Exactly, I have four 948's sitting around but even though I'm in Ontario, Canada in a boarder town with michigan, I imagine the shipping costs would be ridiculous.

I shipped my 1275 to Hap via UPS in 4 boxes. Wouldn't do it that way again, though. He truck freighted it back on a pallet, and that's the smart way to do it.

There is a 948 and smoothcase for sale on the Seattle Craigslist at the moment, but he wants $250.

Very nice, BMC A Series 948 engine for a Morris, Midget, Sprite, Mini, whatever. Comes as a complete installable package with original smoothcase tranny, SU carb, clutch, etc. Perfect for restoring a Bugeye or Mini back to original. Same thing for a Morris. As a friend once said, "You can't wine and dine her in an old Morris Minor". In any event, I was going to use this as a project motor for a Bugeye I was interested in, but I'm satisfied with my current MG as it is. A swinging deal if you need it! [/QUOTE]

You have to wonder when they list Mini as a possible usage for the engine.
I have a good rebuildable 948cc apart. It's bore and crank are standard with the alumn engine tag still on it.
The value I'd put on it is $200.00 You can find them for less, no question but this is a nice clean engine and worth keeping for anything less. Kinda why I have it.
